Uitgebreide omschrijving

Genocide does not have time! According to Primo Levi, an Auschwitz Survivor, genocide ‘happened, therefore it can happen again, it can happen anywhere’. Genocide and ethnic cleansings are actually taking place in many parts of the world, still bringing immense suffering and hatred for generations to come. For some time, the month of April symbolized a dark period in the history of humanity. Coincidently, the Armenian genocide began on 24 April 1915 and the Genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda started on the 7 April 1994. Some voices call even April the ‘killing month’ while others claim that April should be the right month for ‘genocide awareness’. Building trustful relations between Turkish and Armenian people is still a complicated and long journey. 24 years after the tragedy, Rwandans are still trying to re-imagine what might be a fair and just hope for their future after a very complex past characterized by inhumane violence. At present the uncared genocide in Darfur is still ongoing and international community fails to face its legal and moral responsibility to stop it.

The programme Talking Peace in April, and beyond will invite you to reflect on how to establish a more inclusive peace after genocide and what are the causes perpetuating situations of bloodshed in some countries. The program aims at creating space for an exchange of ideas on how to put up conducive conditions that can give chances to a more peaceful and trusted future for the coming generations.
